My name is Maya Scully and I'm a ceramic artist from Dallas, Texas. I am a graduate of UNT College of Visual Art & Design with a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics. My work consists of mostly of handbuilt pots and functional wares made with a pinching method. I am still constantly exploring this medium and trying to find my artistic voice and where I fit in. I find inspiration in nature, it's colors and the beautiful details that occur naturally in our world all around us. I want this to reflect in my pieces, almost like they're dug from the earth itself. I also find inspiration from my family, which is why I think I am drawn to making mug forms. Morning coffee is a ritual that has always been present in my life so I think that is why I keep coming back to them. As for the pots I make, I enjoy the ability working larger gives you to explore form and texture. I find a lot of doors open up creatively when working with a larger canvas. Most importantly to me though, I aim to find peace not only for myself in the process of making, but for the person who purchases my work and adopts it into their daily life. Currently, I am looking forward to working towards more frequent shop updates, solidifying my home studio sutuation and getting into more art markets and vendor settings as covid guidelines continue to lift.
